A SMALL NEIGHBORHOOD NAMED ASPETUCK IN EASTON AND WESTON, CT

ASPETUCK, EASTON, CT

Aspetuck is a neighborhood in Fairfield County and is located on the Aspetuck River. A larger portion of Aspetuck is located in Easton, CT but it also extends into Weston. It is known for being the home of the Aspetuck Historic District, which is a preserved collection of homes from the 18th and 19th centuries. Aspetuck was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Aspetuck gets its name form the Aspetuck Indians that settled along the river in the 17th century. The Aspetuck Historic District is about 80 acres on the banks of the River and includes the oldest section of Easton. The district is popular for being known as a "Connecticut Farming Community that hasn't seen much change.

The district is significant because a house on 163 Redding Road was the long-time home of Helen Keller, who was blind and deaf. She walked through the neighborhood by herself, using a fence that ran down to the Aspetuck River as a guide to help her.

Some other significant structures there are the Orlando Perry House, which displays Greek architecture, a beautiful reinforced concrete bridge with cobblestone and a rubble -stone dam from the mid 19th century.

Besides the Historic District there are so many things to see and do in Aspetuck. It is the home of the Aspetuck Rugby Club, Girl Scouts of Greater Connecticut, Aspetuck Valley Trail and the Aspetuck Valley Apple Barn.

If you live in Fairfield County CT or are visiting the County you must visit the Aspetuck Valley Apple Barn at at 714 Black Rock Turnpike (also known as Route 58) especially during summer and early fall when the shelves are filled with all types of freshly picked apples. The Apple Barn is a fun, rustic country treat.

The Apple Barn is open from April through December, the Apple Barn sells locally-grown produce like tomatoes, nectarines, peaches, plums, and blueberries; a wide variety of cheeses, sauces, jellies, and syrups; delicious pastries like fruit pies and the very popular apple cider donuts. The Apple Barn also has great fun gifts like candles and garden ornaments.

Some say the best thing about the Apple Barn, though, is the tremendous selection of plants and flowers it offers during the summer and into the fall. Annuals, perennials, flowering plants, shrubs - Apple Barn has it all!
