What is a lorikeet?

Summer is in full swing at the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk, CT. The aquariums latest "Special Exhibit" is an aviary set up in a beautiful courtyard and it is filled with 50 lorikeets. Lorikeets are medium size tropical birds in the parrot family. These rainbow colored birds are found in Australia, south-eastern Asia, Polynesia, and Papua New Guinea. Lorikeets feed on nectar and fruit. When visiting the aviary you will be surrounded by the free-flying lorikeets, it is a very hands on exhibit, you may even be lucky enough to have one land on you!! Come visit the Maritime Aquarium and these beautiful birds.
