Christi Joined Active Rain a little while ago, and has been trying to learn how to do our "blog thing." She has diligently been taking all of the courses she could find from the AR Gods, but somehow there were still holes here and there for her.

I decided to help her, and then write about it to see how many others I can help who might have the same problems. The Sensei Group was a great idea by Dick Greenberg to enlighten our AR Group to a higher level by sharing the knowledge.

We have all been there, and been so frustrated that it all sounded so easy on the webinar, but when we actually try to put it into practice, we flop!

Christi was there with links. And resizing photos that had been uploaded into her posts already.

We had a sit down today to learn how to link properly and what the purpose of a link was. We discussed when you do a link, to have the url (address) of the item you wish to link ready and copied. Then type in the title or words for the description of the link. Highlight those words, then click on the chain on the tool bar, insert (paste) the copied url address, click "ok" and viola! You have created a link.

The purpose of linking is to ultimately lead your reader (or Google) around in your blog site or website to other spots that are relevant.

Resizing an already uploaded picture was stumping her - two ways to accomplish this. One is to left click on the picture, then look up to the toolbar. There you need to click on the picture icon to the right, and when that opens, go to the "appearance" tab. There the options are open for resizing (if you deselect the proportions box, you can mess around with width and length) - width and length, location in the post, space around horizontally or vertically, etc. We kept it pretty simple, and did not go further.

You can also resize the picture right in your post. (Must be in edit mode). Click on the picture, and drag either a corner or side box to create the effect you need. You can also drag the picture around in your post and placing it where you like.

It was fun to help Christi this afternoon - she "saw the light" and had a few fun "AHA!" moments. I always enjoy teaching, but also love learning something new every day - I did learn lots today and will blog about it tomorrow. Lots of learning!
