WILTON IS THE 7th BEST HIGH SCHOOL IN CT

The Wilton, CT school district has been recognized as one of the best high schools in Connecticut. According to the U.S. News and World Report’s 2016 Best High Schools ranking, Wilton High School is the 7th best high school in the state of Connecticut. The school jumped two spots from 9th place last year.

Wilton is one of the four schools in Fairfield County to be placed in the top ten for Connecticut. Rankings were based on

  • Student/teacher ratio
  • Reading proficiency
  • Mathematics proficiency
  • College readiness index

Wilton High School has a 14 to 1 student/teacher ratio with 98% of students proficient in reading and 97% of students proficient in math based on state exit exams and internationally available exams on college-level coursework, such as AP exams. College readiness is measured by the percentage of 12th graders who were tested on and passed AP exams. 91% of Wilton High School students who participated in the AP program passed.

The Hour states that Wilton Superintendent of Schools Kevin Smith hopes that the ranking is a point of pride for the community and said “it’s an indicator and effect of the hard work and dedication of our students, staff and families.” Smith did not know exactly why the school jumped from 9th to 7th place, but indicated that more Wilton students are participating in the AP program with test scores increasing each year.

Smith continues to add that “not only do kids need to come through high school and be successful, they need to be prepared for the next step, whatever that step is. It’s incumbent upon us that we work with kids and families to provide a really solid base so, whatever their choices may be, they’re ready to take the next step so they can be successful contributing citizens.”

Other Fairfield County high schools to make Connecticut’s top 10 ranking were:
