The town of Fairfield, Connecticut, 57,340 people strong, is located on the “Gold Coast” of Connecticut’s Fairfield County.       In 2006, Money Magazine voted Fairfield as the ninth Best Place to live in the United States and the Best Place to live in New England.         While the neighborhoods of Southport and Greenfield Hills are among the most expensive in the United States, there are several areas of Fairfield that offer more modest homes.        Parts of the town are headquarters to some of the largest corporations such as General Electric, other parts are beach communities.

Fairfield is one of the ultimate seaside communities in Connecticut with wonderful services, transportation and job opportunities.          The town considers itself “The Dogwood Capital” of the world and in the Spring puts on an annual festival in the Greenfield Hills section of town.

The town was established in 1634 when Roger Ludlow

bought a large section of land from the native owners.     The residents were early supporters of independence and in 1779, the British landed

2,000 troops on Fairfield Beach, invaded the town and burned it to the ground in punishment of their support of the revolution.      Fairfielders supported themselves by growing onions, grain, vegetables and raising pigs, sheep and cattle as well as fish and shellfish from Long Island sound, shipping some to New York City and selling some locally.     As the years passed other towns were formed from the original parcel of land that was Fairfield.

Early breakaways were Redding, Weston, Westport and Norwalk.      The town grew slowly until World War I when the munitions industry in near by Bridgeport brought in an influx of workers who needed a place to live, found land in Fairfield and built homes.      The town quickly changed from an agricultural community to a middle class one.        The railroad came to town in the early 1800s and Route 95 was built in the 1950s.
