Map of Wilson Point

Running north alongside Wilson Avenue, and nestled between the Village Creek inlet and Wilson Cove, lies Wilson Point – a South Norwalk peninsula of both convenient location as well as rich history. Spanning just over 150 acres, Wilson Point has properties ranging from contemporary to large and spacious Tudor styles, with the majority of homes having direct waterfront access to the Norwalk Islands and Long Island Sound.

This area was once known as Belden’s Neck, but would eventually be recognized as Wilson’s Point in 1837, when a wealthy New York City businessman by the name of Lewis O. Wilson would come to own the entire property, partly through his marriage to Harriet Belden in 1825.

In 1865, Wilson gave a portion of this land to his five sons, but had to foreclose and sell the remaining property to Lunette Burchard when he ran into financial troubles in 1879.

The land alongside Wilson Cove was obtained by the Housatonic Railroad Company in 1882, and was subsequently used as a freight and ferry terminal until the early 1890’s, when the location was taken over and operated by the New Haven line until the entire complex was destroyed by a fire in 1899.

The Beach Clubhouse can be found here, with membership offered exclusively to Wilson Point residents, providing members with several beach amenities as well as a kayak storage area. The community is operated by the Wilson Point Property Owners Association, a private association of homeowners in charge of overseeing everything from street repairs to simple preservation of the area’s natural charm through regular upkeep and maintenance.

Wilson Point is also home to the Norwalk Yacht Club, which was originally built on the east side of Wilson Cove in 1894 but was relocated in 1964, when a larger property was necessary in order to keep up with its growing popularity.
