Weston Center CT 06883

Incorporated in 1787, Weston sits in the middle of Fairfield County, CT,   – Wilton to the West, Redding to the North, Easton to the East, Westport to the South and Fairfield to the Southeast.      Weston is one of the most affluent communities in the United States with the highest median household income in the county at $ 185,377.      Early in its history the town was primarily agricultural with its farmers growing apples, potatoes and onions.       Very little manufacturing took place in Weston, in part, because the town does not have a railroad running through the town as does many of its neighbors.       By 1850 there were only nine manufacturers in town and by 1911 there were none.

For today’s residents this is a good thing because it determined that the town would be full of open space, quiet streams and rural in nature.      Population is in excess of 10,000 and with two acre zoning and a population density of 507 people per square mile, you have a feel of living in the country even though you are a short drive from booming Westport with its railroad to New York, sophisticated shopping, and Long Island Sound.    Weston is served by two major North/South roads, Route 53 and Route 57 with smaller roads connecting to the towns East and West.       There is a small shopping center in town where you can buy milk and bread, fill up your car with gas, cash your check at the bank, mail a letter at the Post Office and buy some nails at the Hardware store but you need to drive to Westport or Wilton to do your serious buying.

In the 1930s, creative people from New York found Weston a perfect place to get away from the noise and stress of the city and to this day there were and are a number of well known residents from the arts such as Keith Richards, Robert Redford, Christopher Plummer and Erica Jong.     The “feel” of Weston is one of history, privacy, dignity, politeness and individuality.      This is New England with its wonderful antique houses and spacious new ones, where issues are still settled at the Town Meeting supervised by the town Selectman.

The school system in Weston is outstanding.       There are four public schools in town;   Elementary, Intermediate, Middle and High School.       Weston High School enrolls about 800 students.      In 2006 Weston High School students had the highest average SAT scores in the state.      Recently, close to 97% of High School graduates attended four year colleges.      The school has been expanded with a new science department, cafeteria, gymnasium and playing fields.

Weston feels open and bucolic with almost one quarter of the town permanently devoted to open space use.      There are seven large parcels set aside with the largest being Devil’s Den of almost 1750 acres with 20 miles of hiking trails, a permanent manager , nature classes and tours.       As a Weston resident you can purchase an inexpensive beach pass for Compo Beach with its sandy beach, playgrounds and playing fields and enjoy the use of Long Shore Country Club with its golf course, tennis courts and great restaurant.      The town has an active Recreation Commission providing youth programs, tennis, swimming, soccer, basketball and other season related sports.      There is an active Little League Program in town as well.       There are number of private clubs which provide golf, tennis, shooting and dining facilities.
