Beardsley’s Cider Mill and Orchard from Shelton CT has over 25 different varieties of apples. It also offers fresh pies made every day from fruits.
Since 1849, Beardsley’s Cider Mill and Orchard in Shelton has been in business, with quite a history. The mill was formerly a dairy farm, but a bus accident in 1973 burnt the barn to the ground. The Beardsley’s decided to expand the orchards planted in the 1920s, which are still harvested today. In the seasonal Pick-Your-Own Orchard, there are over 5,000 apple trees.
The Pick-Your-Own Orchard is available during September and October, the exact dates being decided based on the ripeness of the apples. For easier picking, the trees grow a maximum for 10 to 12 feet.
Beardsley’s Orchard grows fan favorites such as Macoun, Red Delicious, and McIntosh. If you’re looking for a special variety such as Spitzenberg, Baldwin, or Winesap, have no fear--Beardsley’s grows them too! With just over 25 different varieties, you are sure to find your favorite apple.
The cider at Beardsley’s is 100% pure juice made from ripe apples too small for selling or apples that have blemishes. Beardsley’s Mill and Orchard also offers local honey coming from hives in Shelton or other Connecticut farms. If you suffer from seasonal allergies, it is said that local honey can help to desensitize you, giving you another reason to purchase it.
If you love pies, then you are sure in for a treat. Beardsley’s Cider Mill offers fresh pies made every day from a variety of fruits. Pies are available baked or frozen so you can bake them at home. Pumpkin cheesecake, cider donuts, cookies, and fruit breads are also available for purchase at the bakery.
Whether you come home with a bag of apples, a gallon of cider, or a freshly baked pie, you’ll feel satisfied with your day spent at the Beardsley’s Cider Mill and Orchard.
