This preserve gets its name from local lore, as charcoal makers believed that hoof-like marks engraved in boulders was the footprint of the Devil!
Run by the Connecticut chapter of the Nature Conservancy, Devil’s Den is the most frequently visited preserve with over 40,000 visits per year. Although camping within the preserve is not allowed, visitors can make use of the extensive trails and soothing scenery. Various programs and group hikes take place within this woody park, as a result of partnership with the New Canaan Nature Center, but maps and booklets for self-guided tours are also available for those who wish to explore on their own.
