Whimsy Brook Farm is a family owned farm and educational institution. Since 1972, The Farm has been raising and training horses. As one of the few places in Fairfield County, Whimsy Brook Farm solves behavioral problems in horses. Their philosophy is that horses should do their job not only well, but also happily. Horse whispering is commonly used and promotes a relationship between the horse and the trainer.
Aware Riding is also taught at Whimsy Brook Farm, which is the belief that individuals should be in touch with their minds and bodies as well as with the horse’s mind and body. Creative exercises are taught to help get rid of tension and get in touch with their bodies. All riders are also taught how to groom, lead, tack up, and put away their horse.
Lessons are taught in a private or semi-private format so that riders are able to learn correctly the first time around. In group lessons, many riders are not able to be given enough individual attention and may gather many bad habits as a result.
Whimsy Brook Farm has a long history of community involvement. The farm donates compost to the Redding Town Hall Parade Ground gardens, local Garden Club gardens, and also to seniors for community garden patches. In addition, the farm offers internships for high school and college students as well as work-study programs.
Rated as one of the best small towns to live in, this town is known for its parks and gardens, and also boasts many historic buildings and homes.
