The best practice for real estate and all other professions is to keep an open mind for constant growth in knowledge, tools, connections, technology and techniques, etc. The tools and technology for real estate are constantly changing. The agents that do not stay in touch with the new tools will be left behind.
There are always posts on Active Rain that are full of new information about the new tools of the industry, and even usually instructions included in the posts on how to best use them. First the Blackberry, then the iPhone, then the iPad2, then the QR Codes, Google Plus, etc.... There are constantly new tools and technology to learn. The agent that utilizes none of these will be left behind.
What I found last week at a listing presentation that trying to utlilize these new tools and technology, even if not totally proficient at it, is a good start. To bring information fresh off the internet, to show a client what they need when the question arises, is so much better than bringing a canned polished presentation in print. It does not need to be perfect, but if you have the tools and technology with you to access information, it sure is impressive and helpful.
I just bought a new iPad2 a week ago. I worked hard to have a nice presentation for this client. It went beautifully. The client then asked some questions that began to take the conversation in a new direction, with new research needed. Without the iPad2 and my new tools and technology, there would not have the classy presentation, and certainly not any extra research!
