Look Closely! A Saga of the Ongoing "I'm Ready!"

We are about to list my mother-in-law's house. We thought her house looked really great and ready to go "on the market."

However, as we started straightening things up, we noticed that the rug in the den was a little older looking all of a sudden. That's easy! We cut it up, and took out the garbage bags. But, when we looked again, the hardwood floors had had that carpet over it for 50 years, and had little dots from the padding..... and the floor was bleached out where the sun had hit it by the sliding door. Hmmm. So, we called the floor refinishing fellow and asked for a fix. Hard to do, but done today. TVGetting a house ready to sell is not always easy..

Next, we decided the Black and White TV needed to go, so that and the stand went out. OOPS! The wall behind the TV was badly marked up. Had not seen that before, as the TV had blocked it. Maybe my tour through with my mother in law had been through her eyes? I must have forgotten to put on my scrutinizing hat.... As I looked around the room, the room really needed painting. We did that today, and got the windows cleaned.

And each room brought a different set of issues.... The faucet was dripping in the bathroom, the rug in the dining room was dirty, the exterior needed painting, windows needed washing, the rug was loose in one spot in the sewing room..... Oh, dear!

How in the world was I going to get my mother in law to say yes to all of these things, and still get them done in three days? I had a great team of vendors, but three days? That's probably pushing it! That phone was buzzing today!!!

The house that we had proclaimed - "Ready!" was not quite so ready. Oh! I forgot the cleaning gal! My mother in law's gal was 86, and probably not up to this hard scrub, so we need another different one of those.....

It is Tuesday tomorrow, and I hope to have the house ready by this Thursday morning for Broker Open. Two days ....

Wish us luck!

Have you done this?
